Escape to the ends of the earth in the footsteps of the great Mongol warriors on this incredible adventure ride from the BMW days in Garmisch, Germany to Eastern Europe & Russia and onto the Mongolia capital of Ulaanbaatar. Grade 4 Bike Tour
90% of this ride will be paved; a lot of these roads shall be in very poor condition, narrow and with rough shoulders and massive potholes. Some roads will be extremely busy with drivers that have a very different attitude to driving than we do in the west.
10% of this ride is off road, some of these tracks are very rough with gravel surfaces and some very small patches of sand and a small number of creek crossings. Some muddy patches may be encountered, (depending on weather)

We depart the amazing BMW days at Garmisch, in the shadows of Germany’s largest mountain, the Zugspitze, before riding ones of Europe’s finest rides of the Großglockner. We cross into Austria and ride the Nockalmstrasse one of the most breathtakingly beautiful rides in Carinthia before entering the Czech Republic and spending two nights in the stunning city of Prague. We ride north from Prague and into the UNESCO Geopark of the Jizera River region of castles, châteaux’s and monuments between Jicin and Turnov. The ride will then cross into Poland and visit Krakow to see the week out.
From Poland we enter Belarus a land of cornflower fields, thick primeval forests and picturesque villages before crossing into Russia a land littered with cultural and natural treasures. We ride up the edge of imposing Red Square and park our bikes in the shadow of St Basils. Continuing on we visit Suzdal a town seemingly caught in a time warp complete with gingerbread houses and a crumbling Kremlin.
We enter Kazan spectacularly set on the banks of the Volga and home to the amazing UNESCO listed Kremlin. We cross the Ural Mountains, the border between Europe and Asia, and visit Perm-36 a infamous Gulag for political, artist, scientists and intellectual prisoners after 1946. We visit the Ural factory and museum in Irbit before crossing into Siberia and stopping in Tomsk, one of Siberia’s oldest cities.
The ride continues to the jewel in the Siberian crown, Lake Baikal, the deepest freshwater lake in the world that contains 1/5th of the world’s supply of fresh water. We shall visit the wonderful Irkutsk the stepping off point for Lake Baikal; with it traditional wooden houses slowing sinking into the permafrost alongside glittering hotels. The week is seen out as we near the Mongolia border.
We cross into the amazing Mongolia, the “land of blue skies” and a destination that occupies the hearts of every adventure biker. We ride west wild camping in spectacular seclusion before reaching the stunning lake of Khovsguul Nuur surrounded by alpine forests and towering granite peaks. The riding becomes more and more spectacular as we ride south to another incredible lakeside Ger Camp at Tsagaan Nuur.
Last 3 days
We ride northeast and stop at the wonderful Fairview Guesthouse at Tsetserleg before riding into Ulaanbaatar via the former capital city of Mongolia at Kharkhorin established by Genghis Khan. The tour ends in Ulaanbaatar the capital of Mongolia.

On every day of the tour we include breakfast. On mentioned ride days we provide a picnic lunch that we prepare ourselves from our mobile kitchen. We include mentioned dinners in reliable restaurants we have used many times before.
