ANZAC Motorcycle Tour

ARA ROAD IZMIR

10 DAYS

Join Compass Expeditions on an exciting motorcycle tour as we explore one of the worlds most contested countries, Turkey.

This ride features the Gallipoli Peninsular as we commemorate the allied landing in 1915 on the 25th April. This motorbike tour doesn’t focus entirely on Gallipoli as some fantastic mountain and coastal riding, ancient UNESCO listed sites and legendary ruins also feature in this incredible ride through this remarkable country.

Along the route you will visit fascinating places, see one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, stay in exquisite coastal towns and have the chance to experience a traditional Turkish bath in a luxury spa hotel. You will pass through simple mountain villages and be made welcome in many of the cay (tea) houses that Turkey is famous for. The route eventually winds down to the Mediterranean coast where you can visit ancient cities, beautiful coastal towns and taste the superb cuisine of the region along with the local drink of raki.

Note: Access to the memorial service on the day of the 25th is restricted by the veterans association to those who successfully win tickets in the Australian ballot. We will however be visiting the memorial site at an alternate time.

The next day we ride west to the coast at Çanakkale where we board the ferry and ride to the Anzac war memorial park- often a very poignant and moving visit for many Australian’s who remember those who fought in the infamous 1st world-war battle. After Gallipoli we head south, taking in the best roads and fish cuisine of the Aegean coast and arrive in Sirince to explore Ephesus – the second largest city in the Roman empire. From here we head along the Aegean coast with a wonderful days riding visiting the 3000 year-old rock tombs and turtle breeding grounds of Dalyan stopping overnight in the wonderful yachting town of Gocek, known as the St.Tropez of Turkey!

Week two

Heading east along the turquoise Mediterranean coast we arrive in the old fishing port of Kas dining on fresh fish in the town square. Riding north we head into central Anatolia and the famous travertine’s and natural thermal waters of the famous Pamukkale.

Continuing north we head towards Salihli, riding some of the very best mountain roads in Turkey eventually returning to Istanbul the next day. Understanding The Tour Grade System

This ride grade system is a guide only and it should not be assumed that if a grade 4 ride, for example, is booked and a rider has had limited experience on dirt that it will be beyond them.

Likewise it should not be assumed that if a grade one ride is booked a rider is assured that no dirt will be ever encountered, governments love road works.
