Victoria: Ride one of Australia’s finest coastal roads on this exceptional motorcycle tour.

Departing Australia’s cultural capital, Melbourne, we take a transfer out to the village of Ballan before receiving the bikes and riding through small rural Victorian townships until we enter the spectacular Otway’s temperate Rainforest en route to the Great Ocean Road. The Great Ocean Road is one of the world’s most spectacular rides; it hugs the coast with a landscape of rugged cliffs and limestone formations. The ride follows the Great Ocean Road until the seaside resort village of Port Campbell. Riding inland we soon reach the 400 million year old Grampians National Park a treasure trove of forests, fern gullies, cliffs, waterfalls and lakes. On our return ride to Melbourne we shall visit the gold rush town of Ballarat and the scenic village of Daylesford and enjoy spectacular tree lined back roads on our way back to Ballan.

‘understanding the Ride Grade System’

This ride is suitable for the off-road novice and two-up riding.
99% of this ride is paved; this pavement can vary from great well-maintained roads to narrow winding and damaged roads. 1% is off road; this is generally hard packed surface with a little gravel, more dirt riding options are available.

The ride follows the coast on winding and twisting roads and we ride a series of twisties through the Grampians National Park. Wandering wildlife can also be present.

Total distance: 722 km / 449 miles

Day 1: We transfer from the Melbourne CBD to the rural township of Ballan where we collect our bikes. We shall begin the ride taking the quiet rural back roads visiting numerous small villages including Shelford & Bambra. We join the spectacular Great Ocean Road at Aireys Inlet and stop off for some Koala spotting near Kennett River. The ride continues on through the spectacular Otway’s National Park and follows the Ship Wreck Coast before reaching the breathtaking coastline highlights of the 12 apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge. We spend our first night at the seaside village of Port Campbell.

Day 2: Today will see us ride inland through lush dairy land to an ancient land of soaring cliffs, stringy bark forests, waterfalls, swamplands, fern gullies, creeks and lakes to the 400 million year old Grampians National Park. We shall explore the area by motorbike and visit some amazing lookouts for superb views across this region. A visit to the amazing Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre is included, where we can learn more of the ancient history of the Aboriginal people that have occupied this land for over 5,000 years. Tonight is spent at the tiny village of Halls Gaps set in the heart of the Grampians.

Day 3: Leaving the Grampians we ride for 2 hours until we reach the historical goldfields town of Ballarat visiting the unique Sovereign Hill replica goldmining town, a complete recreation of a working gold mine town from the 1850s, where you can “Pan” for gold. Continuing on we shall visit the beautiful spa town of Daylesford set amongst a stunning mountain landscape on the edge of the Wombat State Forest. The ride shall continue on through wonderful eucalypt forest scenery that abounds around Trentham, Blackwood and Greendale before arriving back at Ballan. Understanding The Tour Grade System

This ride grade system is a guide only and it should not be assumed that if a grade 4 ride, for example, is booked and a rider has had limited experience on dirt that it will be beyond them.

Likewise it should not be assumed that if a grade one ride is booked a rider is assured that no dirt will be ever encountered, governments love road works.
