This motorbike tour takes in the very best of Western and Eastern Anatolia. Journey with Compass Expeditions as we discover an amazingly diverse landscape of fairytale castles in Cappadocia, towering mountains that plummet into the sea on the Mediterranean coast to the barren mountains and verdant valleys of Anatolia. Discover ancient sites and incredible antiquities such as those of the ancient library of Celsus at Ephesus and the ancient Lycian Tombs around Myra. Note: Access to the memorial service on the day of the 25th is restricted by the veterans association to those who successfully win tickets in the Australian ballot. We will however be visiting the memorial site at an alternate time.
Grade 2 Bike Tour
This tour is mainly on traffic free paved B roads that are generally in good condition; however, occasionally we ride on minor roads through villages and dirt surfaces that can occasionally contain some potholes and loose gravel. There are some tracks that take us to some historic places but they are optional and very manageable for most riders. Distances on 4 of the days are quite long with up to 7/8 hours of actual riding

The tour starts with a welcome dinner in ancient Istanbul, collecting the bikes the next day and riding south west towards the historical town of Bursa where we can enjoy a spa hotel and traditional Turkish bath. The next day we ride west to the coast at Çanakkale where we board the ferry and ride to the Anzac war memorial park, often a very poignant and moving visit for many Australian’s who remember those who fought in the infamous first world-war battle. After Gallipoli we head south, taking in the best roads and fish cuisine of the Aegean coast and arrive in Sirince to explore Ephesus – the second largest city in the Roman empire. From here we head along the Aegean coast with a wonderful days riding visiting the 3000 year-old rock tombs and turtle breeding grounds of Dalyan stopping overnight in the wonderful yachting town of Gocek, known as the St.Tropez of Turkey!
Heading east along the turquoise Mediterranean coast we arrive in the old fishing port of Kas dining on fresh fish in the town square. Riding north we head into central Anatolia and the famous travertine’s and natural thermal waters of the Pamukkale. Continuing north we head towards Salihli, riding some of the very best mountain roads in Turkey eventually returning to Istanbul the next day. After a rest day in Istanbul, the second half of the tour heads east to the Black sea region and the Ottoman town of Safranbolu, now a Unesco world heritage site. The next day we head south into central Anatolia we reach the incredible lunar landscape region of Cappadocia. Here we spend two days exploring the region with it’s cave dwellings, underground cities and the chance to take a balloon ride in what is known as one of the top three places in the world to Balloon.
Heading to Konya we visit the Mevlana museum, home to the whirling dervishes before arriving in the beautiful old port -town of Kaleici in Antalya. After a rest/sight-seeing day we head northward again to the ancient city of Sagalassos before luxuriating in a spa hotel. Finally, with an overnight stop in Bursa, we return to Istanbul via the ferryboat for a final farewell dinner. The tour takes in some of the best and most famous sites of Turkey, with something different to see every day. Everywhere we travel on this route we enjoy the fine cuisine and wonderful hospitality that is the trademark of Turkey.
